I just picked up 4 new Nitto M G's 38x14.50/16, I have a 8" BDS lift on my 02 F250. I love the meats, but I thought they were only hitting the plastic part of the wheelwell when in a full turn and I could trim that off but I just found out they're also slightly rubing on the leaf. Anyone know a fix for this short of going back to 36's?
The backspacing on your wheels is too deep. Only solution to this is getting wheel spacers or new wheels. This is a key area with a leaf sprung truck and wide tires.
How much backspacing do you have right now. You really don't want more than 4 1/2 or 4 3/4 inches. But that makes another issue, having the tires stick out too far and causing bump steer and bearing wear. Ahhhh, the joys of lift and big tires.
I am not sure how much backspacing I have, but will check. I was running PJ DG's 36X 14.50 no problems at all...like you said Oh the trails and tribulations of lifts and big & wide tires. They still look the ***** though!
Thanks
Mike
Yeah they do. Sometimes you just have to deal with a little rubbing. Wheel spacers should take care of it though, 1/2 or 3/4 inch you'll probably be okay.
I checked and I have 4.25 backspacing on them now. Been searching for new rims with 3.25 backspacing at a 16X10 8.170 without much luck. Guess I will be looking at some 1" spacers... don't trust them very much either but can't stand the rubbing. I should have stayed with the 36's oh well spend and learn.
4.25 is what I'm running now with 36 x 12.50's and it's a close fit. I had to remove my front mud flaps and trim the lower valance on the bumper. I also pushed the bumper slightly forward with a front receiver behind it.
Only concern I would have is the bump steer and the bearing wear that 3.25" of backspacing is gonna cause. All that tire sticking out may bring some attention from the boys in blue too.
I had the PJ 36X14.50's and the only thing I had to do was trim the valance behind the bumper as well. Yes, I know the 38X14.50's will really stick out quite a bit with a backspace of 3.25 or 1" spacers. I guess it's time for Bushwacker cut-outs. Know anybody with new 36X14.50/16's or the equivalent that would like to trade for some Nitto MG 38X14.50/16's?
