Hello: I am new to this site having just purchased an 05 PSD 4x4 Lariat. I have owned Dodge diesels before this one. The new truck I bought was a dealer trade since my dealer did not have exactly what I wanted. Yesterday I noticed the courtesy lights were not coming on when the door was opened or the remote entry was used. When I took it in for anlysis the service manager, after a 3 hr wait, came out and said they would have to order a new relay to get the problem fixed and showed me a computer printout of a considerablle number of things that had been done to this truck at the dealership from whick the unit was taken. They had replaced the headlights, windshield wiper motor, dash panel and several other electrical items beginning when the unit had 22 miles on it and ending when the unit had 100 miles on it. None of these issues were mentioned by the dealer to my dealer and these things were not addressed at the time of sale. I am very unhappy. On top of this, I have read all the horror stories about the 6.0 L engine on this website . To add fuel to my anxiety another customer with an 05 in the customer service lounge said "wait til you blow off the turbo a couple times and get stranded on the highway and you really will be upset." I feel I have a case for asking Ford to buy this unit back given the circumstances. Any advice for a brand new F 250 6.0 L owner who thinks he may have made a mistake?? I will have to make a decision in the next few days. Thanks for any sound advice from your experiences. MKC40.
I hate to say it, but it sounds suspiciously like a flood truck... I would look very close at everything electrical. It appears that everything is documented. I think I'd drive it if I didn't find anything as long as I didn't pay top dollar for it. If it was a reasonable deal and everything appears to be ok after you get the relay checked out, I think you would be ok. Hard to tell though, the signs of a flood sometimes take months to show up if a vehicle was detailed well. I don't mean to scare you...
There is a wide range of opinions on that topic. If you read the older threads this debate (good vs bad on the 6.0) goes back to 2003. Having said that ... I love my 6.0, not had a lick of problems with it. The turbo blowing off was an older problem in the pre-05s (I think?), something to due with bad clamps that has been fixed for quite some time now. Even if you blow the turbo hose I doubt there is a dealership in the US that has not heard of this issue so your problem should be fixed correctly the first time.
I can't speak for the other issues being fixed. At least it is good the service dept gave you a list of what has been done. Other people here will have opinions and will chime in over time. Just remember, there are a lot of good people here but there are bad apples in every batch. Think about what people say before you follow them off the bridge
I know what I said was doubtful because it's a new rig, but it's not unheard of. Especially down south. Probably electrical gremlins, but I'd still look close...
I have the 6.0 too and I love it!
I agree with sgthawk, look over the electrical. If everything looks fine, no problems. As for the turbo, have them check the tightness of the clamps while it is in the shop. I believe there was a recall for the trucks affected, but it did not include '05s. At any rate if the electrical looks fine, I wouldn't worry. These 6.0s are strong reliable engines and you should be very safe with an '05. May '04 has performed flawlessly.
Welcome to FTE and use this site as a tool. But always keep in mind this is just a small sampling of all the 6.0s. Look when you are driving down the road, there are a lot out there driving, not posting on sites like this. You just bought an '05, time to get excited....Deac
I really appreciate the thoughtful responses from the members responding to my dilema. You all had excellent points to make and it makes me feel a lot better. However I will certainly do what I can to check out the "flood" truck idea. This has been a record year for rainfall in many areas of Al and flash floods have been widespread around the state since Jan past. Where I live we have had just a shade over 63" to date. I had forgotten about these kinds of vehicles since moving from south LA 30 years ago. "hurricane " cars have been
Thank all of you for your thoughtful resonses. I feel better about the situation already. Especially appreaciate the warning about "flood" trucks. I lhad forgotten about this issue since moving from LA 30 years ago when "hurricane " cars were all around after such events and were to be avoided at all cost. In AL we have had a record rainfall in many areas this year and flash floods have been widespread in the State. My area has received a tad over 63" to date. Thanks again to all of you. Mkc40
