Seat slide question

This is a rather hard item to describe. The 40/20/40 bench I purchased has two sets of slides that are welded together and mounted to the bottom of each seat. This seat slide set makes the seat about an inch too high. Does anyone know of any car that has only one slide set?

The reason there are two slides is that this seat came out of an extended cab. One set of slides has numerous settings for the seat to move back and forth, the other slide enables the seat to move full forward for a passenger to get into the back of the truck. I only want the slide with numerous setting, but they are welded together.

Seat slide question

Just grab some slides out from under old crappy bench seats at the junkyard. Don't take the slides out of good seats, leave them for someone that wants the seat. There should be plenty of junker seats in 73-79 trucks out there.

Seat slide question

Thanks for the reply. I searched for a couple hours and ended up taking slides off a couple of trashed seats that were sitting in the bed of a Ford. They need a few modifications but I think they will be a perfect fit for big plans. Sure wish I knew how to weld.

Seat slide question

For light duty stuff on sheet metal and up to 3/16" stock get one of those little 110VAC wire feed welders. Try to get a decent "middle of the road" unit. Put in a good 20Amp 110VAC outlet, wire it with 10AWG wire back to a 20 or 30 amp breaker. Use an industrial quality AC outlet, not a 79 cent bargain bin outlet.

Buy a welding book. Practice with the welder after reading ALL of the instructions. You will find that even a monkey can weld with a mig unit if the settings are set according to the directions. DON'T LOSE THE DIRECTIONS!!! Use a short (<=25') 12AWG extension cord if required. Don't try to stick it out on the end of a 100' 18AWG cord and expect it to work like a budy of mine did.

Don't expect to weld 3/16" stock unless conditions are right. Performance is realisticly limited to 1/8" unless you get a better quality unit.
