i have a '91 f150 4x4 that started life with a 302, last year i had a race shop build and install a 347 stroker along with a msd ignition, rev limiter, and yellow top ultima. i startd having problems recently in that when i get on the gas it runs like a crazed bull but when i get off the gas, such as like at a red light, the idle drops and then it dies. I know the solution is not to stop at the red lights but the local police object to that logic. additionally, i have been having problems with the charging circuit in that when i run the wipers and say put the lights or blower fan on the voltage gauges takes a dive. i put in a 140 amp powermaster race alternator and changed out the postive batt to starter relay cable as well as the starter relay. i cleaned the connection on the top area of the engine but didn't do the neg to fram or either of the starter connections. Now if it dies at a red light it may or may not start. lucky i have a manual tranny and can catch it in gear a lot of the times. It is simply really frustrating to blow the doors of those silly new hemi trucks only to need a jump from them when they finally catch up.
i replaced the negative battery cable and took the connection points down to bare metal. It seems like the battery is getting a bettter charge (14 ish Volts acrosss the terminals), but the blower motor still loads the system down more than i think it should.
Has anyone used two alternators before?
Also it is still droping down to around 500 rpms and trying to stall and the idle tracks between 600 ish to around 1000 rpms. Is this sytomatic of a bad or dirty IAC and if so, how do you clean an IAC?
