Question will it be too loud?

Hi all. I was thinking about removing the muffler from my '05 6.0PSD, instead of spending all the money for a cat back system. My question is for any of you who may have done this, is will it significally increase my exhaust noise? And does it make that much difference in power? I have installed a superchips tuner and am only using the lowest performance setting on it as well. I'm also planning on buying an aftermarket intake setup, but haven't decided on which brand to buy yet. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you're leaving the cat, don't expect it to sound much louder. Most cat-back systems I've seen, sound just like the factory, maybe a little deeper... But, take the cat out, and things change a lot! I have a system with no cat and a straight through muffler and love the sound. It whistles around town, and really howls if you get on it. But, idle and low throttle still sound reasonable. Of course some dealers won't warranty your truck with no cat. Mine said it wasn't an issue unless the cat affected the component. Afterall, how could removing the cat, damage your turbo for instance? For what it's worth, I wouldn't bother changing the intake. The stock filter and box setup is pretty darn good, and as long as you change your filter often enough, the aftermarket intakes won't do anything for you. Remember also it's much easier to have your warranty taken away for changing things upstream vs downstream.

I have had my muffler off for 20,000 miles now no problems. it isn't any louder at idle. iIf you race someone at about 3000rpms it starts to sound like a gasser and gets loud. But it sounds cool.
