93 Flairside

I read thorough many pages but could not find the information I need.

A friend has a 93 F-150 Flairside. I believe it's a 302 with an E4-OD. He lives a couple hours away so it's difficult for me to actually look at the truck. Talking to him yesterday he said the trans (after it warms up) is slamming into overdrive and then will not stay in overdrive. It will shift back and forth between OD and 3rd and the OD light is flashing.

I think it has to be a sensor, dirty connections, something like that. I would appreciate any input on sensor locations, connector locations and/or what to look for when he brings his truck for me to look at. The trans has been serviced every 30,000 and has about 110,000 total.

Thanks for any input you guys might have.

He needs to have the codes pulled from the ECU , anytime the OD light flashes like that it will store a code in the computer, basicly it is the check engine light for the transmission.

I'm getting a 93 f150 flareside with a 5.0 and a e40d too. its the C6 just sucks on the highway, and my truck is turning into a rustbucket. probobly a electrical problem. I'm pretty sure autozone or advancd auto parts will do a sode check for free.

Thanks for the info. I knew I had read about the OD light flashing but couldn't remember what it was about. The search terms I could think of did not bring up any good information.

The truck runs good, idles fine and he says the only time it exibits the problem is when it gets hot. I need to verify "hot". I don't know if he means ambient temp hot or engine/trans hot.

The mlps search got a lot of good information hits....thanks!

Only does it once its hot...I'd lean towards a fluid problem. I'd drain the fluid, clean the filter and refill. See if the problem still exists.

I had the same issue & changing the fluid in the trans & converter, as well as a new filter corrected it. Been OK for a few months now. Cheap to try & may fix your problem.
