I just bought an 01 s/c o/r with a 5.4. I bought it from a well known dealer about a week ago. It runs excellent, but I want it performing at it's absolute best.
My question is, would the dealer replace stuff like the fuel filter, air filter, plugs and wires and the normal stuff associated with a tune up before they sell it? If they do I'm not gonna worry about it.
If not I'm probably gonna throw a new fuel and air filter in it, along with new plugs and wires and clean the maf sensor just because I'm picky about this kind of stuff.
Coming from someone in the independent repair business, I would estimate maybe 1 in 200 car dealers do the proper maintenance to a vehicle before they sell it. Thats just that much more they have to spend hence lowering thier profit. I woulnd't count on anything being done - maybe an oil change if your lucky. As for the needed items - Plugs @ 100K, no wires - it has coils, Tranmission Flush @ 50K, Check Differential Fluid(s), Coolant Flush, PCV Valve, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, and check the Belt.
