P300 problem

P300 problem

Hi, before anything else I'm sincerely consternated about the hurricane events, and I hope everyone supports the victims in different ways.

Mi post is about my ranger 2002 XLT 3.0 supercab. my wife was driving the car and then the engine started sputtering at low rev. Then the check engine light came on. Today I check with a scanner and it shows code P300 and a number 20 just after the code. This number 20 apeared only a few seconds and then just the P300 code. I erased the codes but there is a problem with the idle, it feels like the car is shaking.
The problem is only at idle, whe the car is accelerated you can´t feel anything.

After reading I have determined to check:

1) sparkplugs
2) Sparkplug cables
3) clean EGR
4) clean MAF

What would you recommend I want to clean firs and start buying parts as a last resource, I live in El Salvador and parts are more expensive here.

Does anyone knows what is this #20?

Another thing to consider is the camshaft position (CMP) sensor (or a problem with its circuit). A bad CMP sensor/circuit can cause a P0300 code, and although many times you'll also get a P0340, that is not always the case.

The 3.0L OHV is somewhat prone to CMP sensor/synchronizer issues:

Thanks Rockledge, I´ll check wiring first, and I´ll try disconnecting the sensor to see if it gets worse or if it remains the same...
I´ll post back my results

Post Hope this helps us both

The problem you are encountering is also happpening to me. Except at high RPMS. I got a code that said " Faulty Camshaft Positioning Sensor". I havent changed it yet, but in my repair manual is seems pretty easy. The sensor costs about $30.00. I would like to know if you, or anyone can offer some advice on changing this sensor out. I know you must have top dead center. Hope my two cents helps.
