I am looking at custome wheels and am looking for pros and cons for both chrome and polished alluminum wheels. I do not mind, actually enjoy, cleaning my truck , but want something that will look nice and not get damaged easly. And what do you use to clean your wheels both chrome and polished.
Chrome is easier to maintain. Polished aluminum look great but it is hard work to keep them looking as good as new, alot of polish and elbow grease. You can use a mild soap and water on the chrome and towel dry, it will look as good as the day you purchased. I would spend the extra money on the chrome.
I love polished, but it's a complete PITA to keep polished and clean. I like to clean and polish my truck too, but sometimes I remember how relatively easy chrome is to clean... I have a Harley w/ both chrome and polished too. I'll take the chrome...
I third the chrome. I have the polished aluminium that came on my dually and they are difficult to keep looking pretty. I've tried Turtle, Mother's, Eagle, etc. All do okay, but require to much elbow grease. On the other hand I have chrome on my Samurai rockcrawler that have been put through hell, and all they require to look brand new (minus the spots that have rock damage,) is a spray of water, a quick wipe with a soapy sponge, and drying.
I will say chrome will be easier to maintain, but don't get rid of your stock wheels. Come winter, you will want to change out. The amount of salt that the fine state of Nebraska puts on will ruin your finish quickly. It's an absurd amount of salt at least in lincoln. I saw a road last winter that looked like there was snow on it but it was just the salt left over from the last snow storm.
Sounds like everyone agrees on Chrome. Good, I like them better!! blackx psd I was born and raised in Nebraska, but I now live in South Carolina. I agree though about keeping the factory wheels! Has anyone heard reviews about Ion or Helo wheels?
Ion and Helo make an okay wheel, but their chrome is kind of hit and miss quality wise. If you want a strong and almost indestructible wheel with awesome chrome quality and durability take a look at Evo wheels. They are made by Weld Wheels. I have never had a problem with any of their products, and they have the best warranty out there.
