Ignition wire

i got a 86 f150 that has had all the efi ripped off and all the wires cut going to it.
I have put on a new head on one side, new edelbrock intake and carb, and a new distributor and coil.
I cant find the old ignition wire that sends power when the key is on and when in the starting position. is there a spot on the fuse panel?
A diagram of the fuse panel would be helpful.

Coming from the keyswitch on your particular truck is a white/lightblue dotted wire. This fed the TFI ignition module, the coil, and the computer EEC relay. You should be able to use this for your ignition power. BUT, depending on what ignition you are running, you will need to add a resistor inline with the coil +.

You said you have a new distributor, but you didn't say what kind. Whatever you have, should have a vacuum line going to it. If it's an older duraspark II Ford unit, you will need the fender mounted module, and it does require the resistor. I have a diagram to help you wire this if you need it. If it's an aftermarket distributor, you will need to read the instructions to see if it requires a resistor.

For starting you need to find a red/lightblue. This wire should not have been affected by pulling the efi, but if you can't find it, the best place to start looking is on the side of the tranny for an automatic, or on the clutch pedal for a straight drive. This is where the neutral safety switch is located.
