Ok, Its rebuild time and Im not sure how much money to save up. Trying to stay somewhere in between econo-cheepy parts and the high performance gooddies. Im doing all the work myself, and about the only real upgrades I plan on is a 4barrel carb and manifold. The cluch should also be replaced so I was thinking somewhere in the ball park of about 2k to rebuild. If any of you know of a website to calculate this please tell me. Oh, one more thing, the engine is a 351m.

well a complete rebuild kit if you stay stock on the inside is about 260 dollars (american) from northern auto parts. a new edlebrock intake is about 170 from northern and the price of a good carb. varies depending on your size and if you want electric or manual choke. If you do the assembly part of the rebuild it should save a bit. BUt you still need to have a reputable machine shop clean, bore and check the block and also have the crank turned. With the connectons i have where i live, i can get the machine work all done for about 250 dollars. So if you assemble it your self your looking towards at least around 700 dollars without a carb.

if you are replacing pistons and having the machine work done, do your self a favor and swap in a 400 crankshaft. get 9.to 1 pistons and a 1971 passenger car timing chain set (will advance cam timing) use an Edelbrock performer 400 intake with Edelbrock/AFB 650 carb the results will please you at around 320 hp with stock cam, smooth idle, and ripping low end torque. for well within your $2000.00 limit.
