ok, i havent quite decided if im a good kinda popular here yet, or a bad one but none the less...
i take a mechanics class and have talked with a few of you and learned that keeping the 2.3L in my truck and instead just doing some basic or advanced tune-ups.
what i am asking here is if anyone here can provide me with a sort of list of stuff people change for a tune up such as spark plugs or a better air filter or even changing the rear differential fluid.

I have an older ('87) Ranger with a 2.3 and from what I remember this is an old truck you just acquired, right? If so I would replace the following:
spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor
engine coolant and thermostat, along with new hoses
fan belts
timing belt
engine oil and filter
transmission and rear axle oil
check the exhaust pipes and system for leaks and rusted parts
Do all that and your old truck will run a lot smoother. Also, go buy a repair manual at your local parts store first. It will be very helpful with instructions and fluid capacities.
