I have a 77 f250 highboy and I was looking for a box for it. Well I talked to a guy and he told me he had a good condition one on a truck sitting at his house. well I looked at the truck and it's a 77 f250 two wheel drive super cab in immaculant shape I'm going to buy it and was wondering what all I'd have to take off of my highboy to make the super cab a 4x4. I'm a certified welder so fabrication is not a problem. I'm thinking the axles with suspension, steering, transfer case. Anything else??
Transmission and transfer case cover mounted in the cab. front driveshaft. If the engine are not the same, the engine towers. The block below the rear leaf springs and above the axle, the U-bolts which hold the axles. Shock absorbers. Brake line hoses which attaches to the axle housing from the frame are a bit longer. You probably want to fabricate the cross bar on which the front leaf spring mount onto and then attach the leaf spring bracket.
Your best bet would be to take the whole suspension off your highboy and put it on the new supercab. Make sure you aline and measure everything right for you front axle to be moked up.
A thing to look at on the 77 f250 2 wheel drive is where the steering gear box is mounted (front or back of spring tower). Not sure if the box will need to be modified. If possible, it would seem better to leave the 77 f250 2 wheel drive frame intact, and build on to it as a 4x4.

This is a consideration, due to the fact the steering box is out front on the highboy, and back close to the cab on the 2wd. The frame is narrower on the highboy, creating it's own set of issues here. If you could get ahold of a 78-9 frame, it would make things a little more easy to swap, but still needing adjustments... Myself, I think you probably would come out better by stretching the frame over all the other ways.
Id go with extending the frame on the 4x4 and doing a body swap. You will save yourself a lot of headaches. 2wd frames were not designed for 4x4 suspensions....the dimensions are not even close.
