Im putting together a 86 302(the 302 had an AOD behind it) and a 1978 NP435 with a Clutch assembly from a 78 1/2. I need a flex plate that will work with this setup, I've been told that one from an F150 from 1973-79 will work. I seem to only be able to find the ring gear. Does anyone know of any other year that will work. Or where I can order something that will work.
I posted this in the 86 forum too.
Thanks in advance
One of your problems is that you need to ask for a flywheel, not a flex-plate, this may cure a lot of your problems. If you call any salvage yard they should have what you are looking for with no problem. There was tons of those combinations made.
Thats what Ive been asking the junk yards for "Flywheel" but someone ripped me for saying it in in another thread. Ive called all the ones locally with no luck.
Flexplate is a very thin plate with the starter ring gear on the outside of it. It is used with automatic trannies and receives the torque convertor.
Flywheel is a very thick cast iron plate with the starter ring gear on the outside(actually replaceable on a flywheel) It mounts the clutch assembly and is used with manual trannies only.
