Don't buy the OEM rotors, they're disposable on all Escapes since they'll wear out before the pads. For about $100 you can buy some decent Raybestos (or other brand) rotors that will last. I replaced them on my 02 Escape due to wear and I imagine the 05 Escape will be the same.
Probably. I just happened to use Raybestos PG Plus rotors since they are commonly carried in local parts stores and you can compare prices. Bendixbrakes.com shows the cross reference numbers.
I am amazed that Ford has not fixed this problem. It has been 5 model years now. The OEM rotors suck, period. Every time you change the pads, you need to buy rotors. It is ridiculous.
As was suggested above, buy a better set made by Raybestos or Bendix and it should help fix the problem. At 2,000 miles, it is a complete joke to have to change rotors.
The rotors don't suck, they are designed to do exactly what they do. DOT regulates brakes on a vehicle, and rotors are now designed to the minimum allowed by law.
If you call throw away rotors a feature, you must be on something. You can't even cut the damn things when you change the pads. I've never heard of such a thing. You don't find a problem with rotors going BEFORE pads are worn?
My '02 is on the original rotors and 2nd set of pads. Currently coming up on 70K miles . No problems beyond normal wear and tear. Only parts installed all fall under the consumable category, i.e. oil, filters, wipers, tires, brake pads, & etc . Whish you all good luck cause I may one day need to replace my featured rotors .
Yep, some get good ones, some get bad ones...
I know of one Escape that had 3 sets (of rotors) in under 10k. I know of another that has travelled over 60k with only 1 set of pads.
