Has anyone ever noticed how crappy Trop Artic smells? Before you pour it from the bottle it smells like burnt rubber or crude right out of the ground.
Why does that stuff smell like something you wouldn't want to put in your car?
Although I don't personally use them, they do meet all of the specs required by Ford. Also a topic worth mentioning, ConocoPhillips packages all of the motorcraft line of oil.
TropArtic® Motor Oils meet or exceed the requirements of:
Daimler Chrysler MS-6395L, MS-6395H (SAE 5W-30, 10W-30)
Ford WSS-M2C205-A (SAE 5W-30, 10W-30)
Ford WSS-M2C153-H (SAE 5W-20)
GM 6094M (SAE 5W-30, 10W-30)
Volvo NA SMB 22-3 (5W-30, 10W-30)
TropArtic® Motor Oils are available in SAE grades 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40.
I wouldn't base my oil evaluations on smell. Ever smelled gear oil? Yeah. For a purely non-scientific test, I'd base it on color before smell. Typically, clearer = better.
I found some technical data on it. Here's the link:
the trop artic is the same oil as the motorcraft. it is one of the best out there to use check out bitog. when i find some i buy it. i have about 90 quarts of it. it is sm rated and a synthetic blend oil.

Rusty, don't be so quick to judge. The Trop Art semi-synthetic blend is a Korean Gp III and PAO blend. It is about 20% PAO which is more PAO than any other out there. At $1.00 qt at most Dollar tree stores, it is one heck of a bargain. It has a pretty decent add pack to boot. I wouldn't hesitiate to run it.
