Do I need tow program to tow?

On my V10 SCMT programmer I have three settings; one for 87 octane, one a 91 octane tow program, one a 91 octane performance program.

Can I tow on the 87 octane program with no negative results other than loss of power the 91 octane program gives?

What if I am running the 91 octane performance program and get the opportunity to pull someone out of a stuck spot, or even tow someone to a garage (for example) that may be 20+ miles away-do I NEED to switch to the 91 octane tow program?

Most of my towing is done under 6000 lbs and for shorter than 300 miles. I would prefer to use the 87 octane program for this. Can I?

When I tow in the Colorado mountains I will be using the 91 octane tow program for the most added benefit.

Comments? Thanks for any help!

Dan

I have the same programmer and have been runnning mine on the performance mode most of the time. I also run E10 gas which is 90 octane. I did catch the engine pinging once when I was pulling about 8000# up a hill on the highway that I started from a stop sign at the bottom. I was reaching about 50 with my foot in farily hard when I heard it pinging and got out of it. I wasn't lugging the motor. I pulled the same load Saturday with the performance loaded and tried to make it ping but I couldn't. I would run the tow program to be safe unless you could easily pull over and reprogram.

There are instructions for reasons. Keep the tuner in the vehicle so you can switch tunes when you need it. You're more likely to get engine ping if you use the max performance tune for towing.

And if I happen to have a full tank of 87 when I need to tow something I obviously cannot tow with the 91 + tow program so can I safely tow with the 87 program?

Thanks.
