changed the transfercase fluid on 1998 exp

pretty straight forward. the book calls for mercon. So instead i put some b&m performance transmission fluid in it. then the family took a trip of about 400 miles this weekend though i didn't notice any diffrence at all nothing went wrong so i figure all is good. Funny thing though we bought this vehicle used and I'll be darn if the transfer case fluid was almost brown with just a little ting of red. Looks like the previous owner totally neglected it. time to do the transmission and the rear end next week as i'm sure they are begging for clean oil too.

holiday187 you may want to check on the other maintenance items as well. Depending on mileage and age of the truck. Considering you found the transmission fluid to be brown, I think its safe to look at performing the other maintenance items as well.
