Memory seat problem

My drivers seat's front would not move up and down. It has been that way since I purchased the Explorer last year. It was at the top of it's travel and wasn't a problem. I decided today to take it apart and see if I could fix it. The good news is by pulling the motor apart and cleaning the brushes, the motor started working. The bad news is it moves the wrong way. When I push to go up, it goes down, and down is up. It's also the same for the back.

The only thing I can think of is if I swapped the armatures between the front and back. They looked the same but then I didn't look that close. Anyone here have any experience with working on the memory seat?

Thanks for any help.

The armature for the front and back up/down must be opposite. I reversed the wires going to the motors and that took care of the problem. Now everything works perfect including the memory function.

Pulling apart the motor and drive system was a real pain. I wish now I had taken pictures to share. If anyone has any questions on working on the memory seat, please ask.

BTW: My original problem was the front would not go up and down. I could see it was caused by the motor by unplugging the motor assembly and checking the resistance of each pair. Cleaning the brushes took care of that problem. The motors are heavy duty enough I doubt if they would burn out.
