Anyone install the Rancho 9000 Adjustable shocks on an '05? It so, can you make the ride softer than the FX4 rancho shocks? Any opinions on the 9000's over the stock FX4 shocks would be a help....
I had them on my '04, before it was lifted. They are infinitley better than the stockers. They completely eliminated the rear axle hop and shimmy. You can make them nice and soft on road and crank them up for blasting down the fire roads and 2 tracks. I liked them alot. I would have put on another set, but Rancho limits their stuff to 4 inch lifts.
The stockers are just pretty painted motorcraft shocks. Suppossedly made by Rancho for Ford, but made to different specs.
I had them on another truck and they did work well.If I remember right they had 5 adjustments from soft to stiff, and you could really tell the diffrerance in the ride.I had them on for about 6 years ...no problems.

I don't go by what a manufacturer says fits. Rancho lists their shocks and collapsed/extended lengths. Did you measure your truck shock mounts and see if Rancho had a shock that would work?
Yeah, I know they have them listed that way. The problem is they are a generic valving in these and not necessarilly setup for the vehicle. The problem I see happening with these is them being too soft. The SD's as heavy as they are will pound on the softer shocks.
But yes, the extended length up front is 27.5 and collapsed is 17.0, rear is 32.0 and 20.5.
I think I'm going with MX6's as they have them already setup for it. I may run dual up front.

I did a 4 inch lift on my truck. This was about 6 years ago and I dont remember measuring the distance.I think when I ordered the shocks it said they would fit a 4 inch lift to the truck.Sorry I cant be more helpful on this, but they did fit well and perform well.Measuring the distance would be a good thing to do so you can give that to the people you order up from.
Rancho has them already measured out for stock height trucks and for trucks with up to 4" lift. Finding them for a stock truck is easy. You don't even have to measure.
I have the Rancho 9000x's in my '01, they go from super-soft to rock-hard with 9 different settings. I do not have the in-cab adjustment.
As to the comment about Ford's shocks being made by Rancho, I think it's that the company that owns Rancho also makes Ford's stock shocks (which absolutely suck wind, at least in '01).
Look at the shocks if you take them off, they are stamped motorcraft on the bottom. I was a little ticked when I saw that. Then I read my window sticker, in the glove box, Rancho "branded" shocks.
I installed the 9000x due to towing a 27' TT that is tall with the slide out. The 9000x's are nite and day from stock. I would definitely reccomend theses shocks for the Super Duty.
Like they can't get wholesale 9000x's or even 5000's ...
I don't get the marketing people sometimes... And that is a typical marketing thing, get them painted white, made by the same company and basically don't do anything...
In the past, any time I've dealt with marketing people on projects, I've always been one to say "get an engineer in here to make sure that's right" ... they look at me like a deer in the headlights, like "why should we ask a dumb engineer?".
(ps: I've worked in a defense contractor as a consultant and was asked for my opinion on a lot of things that had nothing to do with my main job)...
