Brakes
1 My 79 F250 4x4 with dana 60 front... I had the drivers side caliper off resting on the axel and my dad hit the brakes a few times. After looking at the caliper it was leaking a little from one of the pistons and the ring seemed to put pushed out pretty far. Is this caliper no good?
2 I had heard that 70's F350 2wd dually calipers are the same as dana 60's front calipers, is this true?
3 Does anyone know where the best place to get stainless steel flex brake hose from for a 79 F250 4x4 with 4-6 inch lift?
4 On this same dana 60 front end all of the brake pads are in good shape wear wise at least 1/2 is left except the inner drivers side is almost right to the rivits. Is this normal? If not what can i do to prevent this?
Thanks
Jeff
as for Q#3
Its not normal for one side of a caliper to have excessive wear while the other has normal wear, most probably you have a stuck caliper, but the outside pad may have been wedged so that it couldn't move that would cause the other side to grind.
personally i would replace the caliper if i had the money.Brakes are a safety item.
Well I was able to mess around with the caliper some today and you guys were right about the piston being pushed out. I was going use one of those repair kits and repair it but since the brakes on that side were not working like they should I used a different caliper all together. I did figure out that an F350 dually 2wd with front disks use the same caliper as my 79 dana 60 front. I happend to have a pair of calipers from a 76 F350 that were about a year old and put those on and they work. SO hopefully that will solve the one pad from wearing out a lot quicker then the others. I wanted to thank everyone for their help.
Jeff
