The only way to tell is to measure the stroke. If it's about 3.75, it's a 390. If it's 3.5 it's a 352 or 360. Otherwise they are the same. Check the FAQ of this forum for lots of specifics and references. And, of course, ask away!

Casting numbers are on the right (pass) side of the block. That said some casting numbers Ford used were "generic" meaning the same casting number appeared on a number of different bore blocks. A few select numbers are the exception to this and were early 390 blocks. The date code on the block can give you a good idea when the block was cast. Date codes from 69 and up will have two dots under the first number. 69 and earlier no dots. G.
