Howdy,
I have A 1988 F-250....351W
left and right pipes run into A converter...two pipes in..one pipe out.
can I remove the converter, and add dual mufflers to the existing dual pipes?
My first 4-by with A computer..so what will this do to the O2 sensor?
And if I can(hopefully)...can I then scrap the smog pump?
thanks
have a 96 f-150 4x4, mine is set up similer, but my computer is a obd2 i believe, after the cats were taken off they made somewhat of a y pipe for mine, am running single pipe, and then just past the glasspacks it splits into duels. mine had an o2 sensor after the second cat and just ran a MIL (o2 sensor elemenator) to the rear sensor and runs fine, no check engine light or anything, better gas millage i believe as well.. you can get the MIL on ebay for around 9.00 compared to 30 on the website... but dont know about the smog stuff, dont think mine has it, not sure though...
Just leave the O2 sensor where it is. You can add mufflers to those pipes. Dual Exhaust I think some people run into problems removing smog pump. (ie, Computer spits out codes and engine runs crappy)
I forgot to mention, this is A california truck.
I've read these came with too cats...but only one as far as I can tell. the first one(cat) has the air tube into it, oxy sensor is right before it goes into the cat.
is inbetween the left and right pipes.
local muffler shop, informes me.take the sensor off...or remove cat...truck computer will almost stop the truck from running....hmmm...(D)
I removed both of my cats and belive it runs better then it did with them on....lol i have an o2 before were my cats were and one after, and its not throwing any codes what so ever with them being gone. Had to run a MIL on the rear one, thats only becuse it was behind the cats.. you shouldnt have that problom. with it being an 88
Leave the O2 sensor in its small crossover and just weld pipe on from there. Mount the mufflers right after the cab (under the cab will give you resonance), and then run pipe out the back or wherever you would like. More pipe after the mufflers, the "better" it will sound is the concensus.
You can bypass the Air pump with a smaller belt, or replace it with an idler pully for like 80-100 bucks from some company, don't have the website anymore.
Thanks!! Thats what I thought...I was just unsure what the computer would do...or think! I can unbolt the first(or the only) converter, and reattach if I have problems. I have A smaller belt already.
so the A.I.R. pipes going to the manifolds..can just be capped?
this california truck has alot of smog it don't need...wish i knew what could be scraped

Thanks...great info. having dual exhaust, to the converter, helps.
flowmaster has a dual inlet...dual outlet muffler..ahhhhhh..
the local muffler shop swears eleminating the cat...and smog pump..since they be attatched...will kill the truck. computer will go into limp mode...truck will limp home.
bull I say...I am doing it myself, bought pipe expander..we will see
cats clogging anyway...so why add high flow cat when you can throw the damn thing away! 30 extra ponies with flowmaster...15 more without smog pump...electric fan will gimmie more!!
True, but I was hoping removing a clogging cat..would...FEEL like that much
If i leave the pump, what to do with the air tube that was attatched to the cat?
