Hey guys, sorry if this sounds stupid, but exactly what gauges should I consider installing? I have an 05 F250 Lariat. I tow a 30’ toy hauler at least twice a month on a 400-600 mile round trip. The truck has gauges, but I’ve read that some of them are near worthless. I haven’t had any problems yet, but I have a $45k investment to protect!
The three that most get are trans temp, pyrometer (exhaust gas temps), and boost gauge. If you search on just the word "gauge" or gauge install, I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information.
EDIT - when you go to buy gauges, consider buying from an FTE sponsor!
I too have been debating this what gauge issue, Im thinking being my 05 has a boost gauge which seems to work fine and I can usually see what the boost is. I was thinking pyro and maybe, engine oil pressure and engine temp or tranny temp.
Get a pyro, boost and trans temp gauge. The factory trans gauge is a waste of time, it never moves and when it does move it is because the fluid temp is at or over 215-220 degrees. It's an idiot light hooked to a needle! The factory boost gauge is sort of OK but we have seen 2-4 PSI fluctuation as compared to an aftermarket gauge here too! We have all the Auto Meter, Isspro and DiPriocl gauges, mounts, color matching paints and factory built wiring harnesses etc give us a call if you have any questions and visit our site at www.dieselperformanceparts.com
I use a Bully-Dog Monitor. 2 EGT's, Boost, and Voltage are my choice to watch. Other units do it too. All digital, watching the temps definately helps on long hills and for shut down temps...Good luck
