Trailer wiring?
My '96 4.0 Extended has two round electrical sockets "stored" just in front of rear bumper. One is 4 wire. Two of the wires are connected to brakes and turn signals . I don't seem to get any current from the remaining two, nor from the other 2 wire round socket. What're they for? If for trailer wiring, can you buy mates to the sockets? Thanks

I belive they are for trailer wireing. Have you tested them with the running lights on? or with the vehicle shifted into reverse? There should be kits thatt will plug directly into them. Get a 7 pin round connector, because that is the most versatile and powerful connector. It can easily be adapted to anything. I has independant pins for everything. I'm not sure if one of the connectors is ground, but I would test some of them for continuity. One more reason for the 7 pin, is all modern campers and recreation trailers use the 7 pin design for many reasons. In terms of size, the 7 pin is the largest connector for trailer wireing.

For the trailer wiring. Though I believe you have to have the trailer towing kit from the factory to have the relays to drive the power through the wires. Otherwise you have to have the relays AND the factory wiring kit to make the factory wiring work. If you are interested in the kit, let me know and I will drop you the E-Bay# for mine (1995 Aerostar).
If you bought this van new, the wiring should have come in a separate box. Check the compartments in the back and under all the seats or behind the rear trim panels.
