I wish someone here would buy one of those deals from Lombard Ford, as $1650 is BELOW dealer cost (significantly below). At that price, I'd be curious to find out:
- is that REALLY a Ford plan, or an after-market warranty posing as Ford's?
- does that include the $0 deductible, or did they "forget" to include that?
I'm not aware of any volume discounts on Ford ESP, so I don't know how that dealer is doing it. Personally, I'm giving up trying to sell ESP on FTE; I have a very competitive price, but my managers insist I must charge you NYS sales tax, even if you live outside NY. Once I add 7% sales tax, my price is no longer competitive. I don't charge you tax on a $45,000 truck, but I have to charge tax on a $1500 warranty. Amazing...
$1650 I'd say that's a "Joe's Bar at Midnight" aftermarket agreement. I just got the flyer from the dealer I bought my F150 Heritage and they have 7 year, 100K miles Premium Care for $2730 (Plan 451) and Extra Care for $2265 (Plan 351)
i can't see how Lombard can advertise their Ford warranty's as Ford warraty's if they are not.... I mean their website has it Everywhere...Ford Premium Care, only Warranty backed by Ford etc. etc. etc......
I am going to pull the trigger on their $100 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty soon.. I'll let you guys know....
I'll probably call them and Ford to determine validity of the warranty but again I can't see how it can be a farse.....
I just got off the phone with Jeff Clark of Van Bortel Ford about Ford ESP extended warranty for my wifes ordered 06 Mustang GT Coupe. (due in today)
His price ........with tax.... was right with Lombard Fords "special" pricing. BTW, after reading Jeff's posts and now talking with him on the phone, I feel like I have known him for a long time.......... he's truely a nice guy and he's getting our business. Besides, he is an FTE sponsor.
Jeff,
YES, I do......two in fact. A concourse condition 427 Ford powered 1965 that I'm taking to Manistee Michigan in a couple of weeks to the Century boat show. It's the Coronado's 50th anniversary this year. The other is a 1959 that I'm in the process of restoring.
I just bought a 2005 Ranger and my lender will only allow the dealership to charge $5 over cost on the esp. I got a Premium Care 6 year/75k policy with $100 deductble for only $600. When dealers tell you they can't sell these warranties for less than 1k don't believe them for a second. I have all the Ford paperwork and I definately got a Ford ESP for a great price!
i have experience with most ext. service plans being an ex service manager at Ford dealerships, if you plan on keeping your truck i can't tell you how good it is to have one of these plans i always told my customers to buy one(because of the expense of electronic items and engine and trans) and i got one for my f250 cc, i paid $2000 for mine, with that being said i will also say don't waste your money on anything other than a ford plan. when you are away from your home dealership if you don't have a ford plan the dealer may make you pay the bill and get your reimbursement from the sponsor of your plan. hope this helps

I just called our bank and told them that they're not allowed to earn any more than $5 in interest on any contract we send them. Why did the guy laugh and hang up on me?
I think it's noble that the bank is helping to protect their customers from dealers that over-charge on warranties. But a FIVE DOLLAR profit? Where does that bank get off in setting a number like that? My bank earns NINE TIMES that if I bounce a check, not to mention all the other "fees" they've tacked on over the years. For instance, my bank charges $50 to CLOSE my "free" checking account. The bank gets wealthy on your loan, but I can't even buy a burger and fries at McDonalds on the profit they're allowing me on a warranty. Amazing...

Jeff, I agree with you completely! Personally, if I were the dealer I would not offer a contract to those who used this financial institutution. I was sceptical when the finance lady first made that comment but when she backed it up with a $600 price tag I was amazed. She said that they felt it was better to get the warranties "out there" than to not sell it.
I did not make this post to drive dealer profits to $5 but to show that even at Lombard prices there is money to be made. I for one feel good giving the dealer a fair profit if I have been taken care of and told the truth. Isn't it easier to tell a customer that you need to mae "X" amount of profit on every contract as opposed to saying that if you sell it for "X" amount you are losing money?
I really don't know your costs on these things except that a premium care of 6 year/75k with $100 deduct is less than $600. I recently bought a Dodge Grand Caravan and the finance guy told me that $1100 was his cost on a contract, I didn't buy it. I now see it for hundreds less on the internet and am sceptical about future dealings with this dealer. I will still give him my business but I will be more diligent in my negotiations.
I think that Jeff is an honest and reputable dealer based on what I have read here on FTE. My claims about honesty in no way refer to him or his dealership, I just don't see how a dealer can claim to be losing money when selling these ESP's for 1k and higher.

A 6-year/ 75,000-mile PremiumCare on a new 2WD Ranger costs me $630 (with $100 deductible). That's for a Ranger- if we're talking a F-350 diesel 4x4, add $1500. If I can't make $100 on top of that (which is FAR less than what 99% of Ford dealers will sell it for, ESPECIALLY in this "everyone-gets-employee-pricing" world), then I can't be bothered. BTW, that $100 is what the dealership makes. My cut of that? $0.00. So, if you ever get the impression that I'm "doing you a favor" by selling you ESP- you're right. I've always treated people honestly here, but remember that my favorite radio station has always been WIFM: What's In it For Me!
