I have a 95 F350 with the XLT trim that covers the majority of the tailgate. I want a cleaner look and wanted to know if a tail gate from a newer 97+ truck would fit. Has anyone tried this modification?

you can take the xlt trim off.
do bodywork on holes left and repaint outside would be way cheaper than buying aniother tailgate.
i like the no chrome look also of the regular xl.
a 97+ tailgate would not fit.

I love the big aluminum plate on the back of mine. If yours is in good shape you should list it on e-bay. You can easily sell it for enough to buy a new tailgate. That peice sells for well over $200.
