can anyone tell me what towers to use .Can I use towers from a 4x4 with a 351m or do I have to get towers from a 4x4 with a 302 or a 351w? I/ve been told both will work but I'm sceptical. Please help,I've search this forum and haven't seen this exact swop listed(4x4).
:-I just did that mod and I can tell you that the modified towers will work with a little modification to the holes. But they are not I repeat not the same as a 302/351w.But 302/351 towers for a 4x4 are very rare so I went with 351m towers ,but beleave me they arn't perfact.
ive done this swap on a 1983 bronco, so im not sure if this is relevant, but what we did is went to ford and ordered brand new mounts for a 351w, it ended up being a lot easier, and actually cheaper than what the local junkyards wanted. one thing i would like to mention is that you should make sure that you have all the pulleys, brackets, etc. trying to track those things down is NOT easy, well it wasnt here in new mexico anyway, but thats my experience, one more thing, you wont regret this swap, i know a lot of die hards say "i-6 all the way" and i believe that the straight six has its place, which happens to be in the tire smoke behind a 351w powered ford. just my 2 cents.
all v8 engines used in the 73-79 trucks use the same towers from the factory, and all 6cyl ones use the same towers.. i've change motor in 3 of these trucks in the last 3 years, and they all fit perfectly. 302 in a 300 truck, 302 in a 352 truck('66) and 302 in a 351m truck ...
