when my truck is warmed up in the oilpressure guage the needle is between the N and the O in NORMAL. Is this where ti should be or higher on the guage? this is still orignal oilpump and motor and everything. When its cold and just started up it goes clear up to the L.
thanks
Jimmy
I just got my new motor from the shop and the oil pressure guage reads just like you described - between the A and L when warming up and between the N and O when warmed up and idling. At highway speed it's just a bit above the O. My original stock motor read exactly the same way.
It's probably fine. These guages are 30 years old and not terribly accurate anymore. If you're really concerned you can install a mechanical guage under the hood as a check. Kind of calibrate the stock guage in your mind so you know 'L' is Xpsi and 'N' is Y psi.
You know, in later model Fords they removed the guage sending unit, put in an idiot light sending unit and a fixed resistor. Now as long as the pressure was anything above 4 psi the stock guage read mid range. Reduced the number of warranty claims for low oil pressure.
