Okay, I got my new column installed in my '73 and everything works okay as far as lights go. But on the old column the previous owner had cut the horn wire at the connector!!?? Apparently the horn blew all the time. Now, with it re-wired it won't blow at all. It's wired right (at least from the column to the firewall, and battery power direct to the horns blows them. With the horns disconnected, I can hear the horn relay clicking when I hit the button, so I guess it's working. And I get continuity from the relay to the horn connection. I'll figure it out eventually but any reader ideas would help. Polkat
It should be a 3 wire relay. Mine is located on the passenger side fenderwell. What you need to check is if you have voltage coming out of the relay to the horn. It may have corroded contacts.
What happens is that you have 12v going to the relay at all times. When you push the horn button, you are giving the relay a ground so that it pulls in. If it is clicking, you have 12v to the relay and it is getting ground when push the horn button. So it sounds to me like the relay is not putting the voltage thru it to the horn. I would check the relay and probably replace it.
