i have a 54 239 w/fordomatic tranny in right now, and am swapping the engine out with a 57 272 that had a 4-speed tranny. will i need to change anything to the motor, or will it fit right on?
I agree, all should swap fairly easily. I too have a 239 with a Fordomatic - I would look at the differance between the later pilot bushing in a later year shop manual and compare it to the 54 bushing - do you know the year of the 272 you are putting in?
Also, what are you doing with that 239? I may be interested in the entire engine, but I truely need a cylinder head - been looking for years!!
the new engine is a '57. it actually came out of a truck, and is now going in a ranch wagon. will i need a different flywheel? as far as the old engine goes, i could sell you the old one. shoot me an e-mail. starvingartist_74@hotmail.com
i'm in southern california. i would sell the whole engine for $200. obo. has no exhaust manifolds. everything else is there. let me know if you are interested.
Hey guys, I've got a guy here in Bend that needs a 239 block, his cracked after coming to Oregon from California. bessie, if you need the heads, I need the block. fiddy, to reply to your engine swap question, if you're putting it in a truck, if you're swapping all the motor and tranny, then everything will swap right over. Everything on a light duty Y-block will fit another light duty Y-block EXCEPT for some internal parts, and the water pumps. The early 239 has a different water pump and timing cover than the later ones. Otherwise, you can swap everything over. If you're keeping the auto, then you will need to swap the flexpate, and I don't think the auto transmissions use a pilot bearing/bushing, only the manuals did (at least as far as I can tell by my parts and service books). Any how, the swap sould go right over without having to change any thing, unless you're swaping transmissions.
wmjoe, I am interested, however, Uncle Sam has me tied up for a few years. I won't be much help in moving the pieces around. I'd be more then willing to chip in for the Head and part of the shipping if you can do the ground work. If this does'nt work out with fiddyfoe, I have a line on another in Western Montana. Let me know guys!!
