I think I've finally found a fix for that crappie plastic back glass latch that always breaks. I bet I've replaced that thing a half dozen times in the ten years I've owned the truck. I went to the local hardware store bound and determined to come up with a better design than Ford.
I bought a latch for $2.50--the kind that you turn 180 degrees to latch/unlatch. I found one that would come out about right for the space available. I had to drill some new holes in the little aluminum glass frames and attach it with very small self-tapping screws and do a little bending/tweaking to the latch, but I think I've got it fixed once and for all--and I think it'll be a lot more secure than the original too--I just hope I never lock the keys in the truck now!
Tip--be carefull about drilling the aluminum frame--if you go too deep, you'll go all the way through. Also don't forget there's glass in there if you have to get too close to the edge.
Hope this helps somebody!
