I have been contemplating how tuff it would be to install a remote hatch switch. Both my Taurus and Contour have them and it simplifies opening the trunk. And there already is one for the gas cover.
I am so much in the habit of using the lever or keyless entry that I look like a goof when I try to do it to the Aerostar.
believe most of these hood, deck, trunk electric latch releases require a spring pressure to pop open the lid and clear the momentary latch, could use a medium spring like a vavle spring countersunk into the body at hatch edge for pressure.
how about power assist opening?
my wife is small, she can barely lift the hatch on a good day.
the huge hatch is great on rainy/snowy days to stand and sit under for a logging road play trip lunch. also great to set camera tripods up under in the rain.
I installed an emergency release a long time ago, when the hatch closed on me while cleaning the rear windows. Used SS small diameter cable, two crimps, ferrel ( where the cable went thru the door panel) and a small, flat pull handle, and some velcro to attach it to the rear door panel's carpet. P.S. it's not the smoothest operating thing, have to give it a deliberate pull, and then push on the door Makes it so it won't accidently pop open.
