Is it okay to run on unleaded gasoline? I was told that my truck was designed to run on leaded. Will this have an effect on my gas mileage? Is it okay for the engine/parts? Lead additive?

Thanks.

What year is your truck? Or the engine you've got in there...but since you're posting in 73-79 trucks, I am safe to assume to say yes, your pickup can run on unleaded just fine. If I recall correctly, 73-79 pickups were desgined to run on unleaded AND leaded.

It is a 1976 F-150 with a 460 in it. Is leaded any better for the truck or is there any difference? Performance?

76.....yes, you will run unleaded just fine. '76 F-100s were required to have cats, hence the unleaded requirement. Does your '76 F150 has a cat? What is its GVW?

I don't know about performance, I wasn't here during the leaded era...but I think leaded gasoline had higher octane.

Lead was a way to boost the octane of the gas. If your engine doesn't ping, there is no need to use a higher grade. The lead also helped to prevent valve seat erosion.

I had a 77 F100 that had a tag on the tappet cover saying "non catalyst" on it.I dont recall if it required unleaded or not.

Hmm, you sure? When the requirements of the cats in '75, the F100 had to be 'cat'd'...hence why the F150 was introducted.

What's the highest GVW on F100? Or the weight rating for cats/non-cats?
