Is it okay to run on unleaded gasoline? I was told that my truck was designed to run on leaded. Will this have an effect on my gas mileage? Is it okay for the engine/parts? Lead additive?
What year is your truck? Or the engine you've got in there...but since you're posting in 73-79 trucks, I am safe to assume to say yes, your pickup can run on unleaded just fine. If I recall correctly, 73-79 pickups were desgined to run on unleaded AND leaded.
76.....yes, you will run unleaded just fine. '76 F-100s were required to have cats, hence the unleaded requirement. Does your '76 F150 has a cat? What is its GVW?
I don't know about performance, I wasn't here during the leaded era...but I think leaded gasoline had higher octane.
Lead was a way to boost the octane of the gas. If your engine doesn't ping, there is no need to use a higher grade. The lead also helped to prevent valve seat erosion.
