need help finding parts

I just recently purchased an old F-600, I can tell it is between a 73 & 79 model but I'm not exactly sure yet. I am in search of parts for it and I was planning to start with the front center section seeing as to how there isn't one in the back of the front axle. I am unsure of what type of axles came in these trucks therefore making it difficult to track down parts. If anyone has any info that you can give me on this type of truck as far as finding parts for them I am open for suggestions. Please help me. Thanx. Brandon

Check to see if there are any big truck salvage yards in your area. They are good sources for parts. The regular salvage yards seldom have anything for HD vehicles.

It will be either a Rockwell or Eaton.

Does it have a 2-speed axle ?

If Yes, it will be an Eaton.

What is the GVWR of the truck ?

What is the axle code on the Data Plate ?

Going by the code 54:

The rear axle is a Rockwell H-170 17,500 lb with 6.83's in it.

J stands for power steering

There seems to be a discrepancy.

What is the model code stamped into the data plate ?

F650
F600
F661 ?

It has 660 stamped in it from what I can tell it may be 650 but it has an F-600 badge on the fender.

Can you take a pic of the data plate for me so I can see everything else on it ?

Whether it is 650 or 660 they are both 4x4 designations.

The problem is the GVWR at 22,000 that doesn't jive with being a 4x4 according to the book.

GVWR's for the 4x4 are
17,200
21,700
24,000

In the case when the truck is a 4x4,it is well known that the front differential is either the same or one number off the rear ratio.

ie:

4.11:1 Rear diff = 4.11 or 4.10 :1 Front diff

4.10 rear = 4.10 Rear or 4.09:1 Front

Your codes

T = Exterior color = Candy apple Red

4B6 = Trim

4= Black Trim
B = Seat Heavy Duty Black Bench Seat
6 = Chassis Cab

Trans H - Allison MT650

DSO 570727 = My 7th Birthday

No it means DSO=57 = Houston Texas = Speclal truck order #727 for that region

I have my own library

Some people on FTE think I live for decoding

All this data can be gotten by purchasing the original Ford Truck shop Manual.

You might get one here.

http://www.motorhaven.com/home.php?cat=55

item D175

if Not ,try here

www.helminc.com

or www.books4cars.com

Glad I could help you
