I found out what's wrong with the bed or w/e. It is the shackles, leaf spring shackles or w/e? Right by the leaf springs(if they are those 3 layered beams that run from the back of the tailgate, to the tire and farther up after that). It's rusted to hell, and the bed is sitting an inch or more down because of it. Looks kind of bad. I want to get a new bed completely but I don't know how much that would run me, and when that is going on I want to replace those shackles and patch this pen sized hole suposedly in the top of my front gas tank. Would it be easier to lift the truck a couple inches with the bed off or does it not make a difference?
If by 'lift the truck a few inches' you mean install a lift kit then I would stop right there and get those spring, shackles, mounts, and frame looked at. They typically rust at the same rate so you probably have issues everywhere and there aint no sense buying a lift kit until you know if you have enough truck left to put it in. By the way, a local shop quoted me $600 to do just the springs and shackles in my truck. I do consider that excessive and so I'll be doing the work myself.
If you meant jacking it up a few inches to get under and work on it then it doesn't matter, the bed only weighs a few hundred pounds and shouldn't impact the jack.
I beleive a new bed is in the neighborhood of $1500.
Popa TIm
you need to take pictures so we can tell how bad it is. the bed is the least of your worries if the frame is rusted to hell. so take pictures so we can help or w/e.
Go to your local walmart, kmart ..ect. They used to have under $25 640x480 digicams that are just fine for viewinng on the internet. I got one for $14 a few years ago just to see if I would like it better than working with film.
Alright, sounds cool actually. I looked under the truck and the frame doesn't seem bad for being 11 years old. I mean rust is going to be there but I was actually shocked.
