Love my '04 FX4. averaging about 15.5 mpg city/highway driving. Doesn't even know my 3000 lb bass boat is behind it and gets 14.5 towing it. I just hate having to was the big thing though being it is bright red all over. Have 19,800 miles on it with out any problems so far. It's a recommended buy from me.
Just visiting from the mid 50s site........ I have two mid 50s F Series and have always been a Ford man - runs in the family.
I want to buy a new super crew cab now and have been looking for the last four weeks. Trouble is, I can't find one. That is, I can't find one that suits my desires. All of the lots in the Seattle area have either the minimal work truck version or the fully loaded, maxed out version. Where is the mid range option package - this applies to both 05 and 06 models. Simply put, the dealers are catering to the fleet needs, then lining their pockets by pedaling only the more expensive versions.
This has, I will admit, made me walk across the street to the Dodge dealer. No I did'nt buy a Dodge, but I would have never thought I'd be diven to looking at them either.
Bottom line - I have not purchased a new F150 and I am now ever more skeptal of auto dealers and salesmen. It seem that if I want to get the truck that I want, I'll have to special order it.
This is the Mrs. My husband is definetly a Ford man. I had a sweet 98 Mustang GT and was in mint condition but after a few long trips going on vacation we both decided it was time to trade "her" in for something else. I wanted an SUV. At this time the Family Plan was not going on. Ended up buying an 04 Jeep. I can honestly say I was not impressed. In town it was great but taking it on vacation and driving up hills and such it had no go power, it had a straight 6. I got tired of my husband laughing at my Jeep. I guess I was used to Mustang and all the power. Anyway..decided to look again...this time Ford. The Ford Family plan was going on and I could not believe the prices...they where great. I could not find a V8 in a Expediton or Explorer. I started looking at trucks. Beside the $8000 dollars we saved on the family plan...my new 05 F150 rides smooth...has the power...and still have room for my Grandsons in the back, and looks great.
Mrs. Mac.
I would think the only thing better then a NEW (pricey) F-150. Would be a NICE USED truck and save some $$$$.
But here is the problem: The folks trying to sell there USED trucks, havent realized there asking more for there vehicle with 10K miles then a NEW ONE!
CRAZY....... with the employee pricing ..... it's rediculous how cheap a NEW truck is.
All us guys who bought our trucks PRE-employee pricing will never get enough $$$ if we decide to sell. SO I"VE DECIDED TO RUN IT LIKE THE DEMON IT IS! LOVE MY TRUCK, and I'll have mine at 100K+ miles.
I'm a chevy guy (tough thing this day and age) and bought the new F150. The Silvys don't hold a candle to it. Albiet, final judgement hasn't come on this 3v motor yet.
Gas prices. Good thing is I don't drive my F-150 very often, I'm only using it when I have to tow something or drive something in the bed. If I was using it daily, I would be spending at least $150-200 for a gas weekly. Good thing is I still have Mustang, which doesn't get much better gas mileage, but its still better than F-150.
