I,m slowly renewing a 77 f100, and was concerned about rear end leaks. I went to the ford dealer and was told they dont carry the gaskets anymore for the rear end, as well as the pinion locating shim. He told me to use RTV sealant. I,ve never delt with the rear end and was wondering if I open that baby up,,,should I expect a few things falling out, (Ill be doing it as it sits) not on a bench. Am I getting over my head ??
I've used RTV on Mopar, Ford, and Chevy rear ends sans a gasket and never had a leak. Just make sure you don't get a gob of it inside the differential! Polkat
