Fuel Filter Problem
I was replacing the fuel filter, '99 Expedition, have done it before. Today, the filter to engine side nozzle would not give it up. I was using the correct tool for it, but it would not let go. After getting the intake side off, letting the filter hang free so I could work on it better, I finally saw that the four little tabs inside the nozzle had 'folded up' inside and there was no way they were gonna let the filter go free.
My solution to the problem and the BIG QUESTION. After seeing that the nozzle was lost, I (i read this on another forum) cut the plastic fuel line, got 1/4" fuel line and a matching hose barb and spliced it in. Hose onto filter, clamp, hose onto barb, clamp, remaining fuel line on barb, clamp. I started and let it run for a while, all seems ok. No leaks. Engine runs smooth, as before. Question: For the experts, do you think this fix is ok? The Ford part is $135. Ouch!
Comments from the experts appreciated.
I have learned a lot from you guys, just cleaned the EGR ports last week from what I read here!!!!!
