Aerostar Freak????
I got lucky and lived long enough to retire,,,Now to do what I want to do!!
Bought two Aerostar vans, engines are siezed. nice vans.
Need advice, does anyone know what all vehicles came with 3.0 engines that would fit into these vans, a 1990 and a 1997??
I expect to find re buildable engines, as we have dandy wrecking yards in southern california.
Ecology seems to be great, they have yards all over.
complete engines, fan to flywheel range from $160 to $286 depending on which yard you go to....
thanks for any help/advice.
c ya all around bud stadler
I pulled and rebuilt two 1989 3.0s. Are you sure that the 97 isn't a 4.0?
When you mean seized what exactly do you mean? Can you turn the engine
over by hand? It might be cheaper to rebuild the ones in it if the blocks are
not cracked.
Here is how I did it

stick in a performance cam and dual 2" exhausts if Ca. will let you. should be good for 20 mpg plus and a real stump puller.
these 4L's drive the Samari Kids in their rice wine 2L chain saws crazy. they have to reach for the NOX to get ahead of ugly pumpkin vans.
No, I only need to know what all block/cranks bolt up, I hear 1988 to 1995 were commonly used,,,,,,, then 1996 up is different, different crank and whatnot...
Power ???? costs too much fuel to have power...
wanna see something funny..... come to Main Street in Hesperia,Ca and watch the dipsticks ride back and forth on main street in their Hummers and other unuseable Iron, of course even with grandpas money, they don't drive much any more, used to drive back and forth all day long..... this is the drug/meth/useless iron capital of the world.....
they manage to get stuck anywhere, we of the far north only had one wheel drive and never got stuck.... tell ya something???
I sure would like to take these dipsticks up to northernmost Wisconsin or Minnesota or Michigan for just one winter, it would be the funniest
Like, its what???? 50 below zero???? Wind howling??? And you are going to work???
that sort of thing....
As far as I know, there were no changes except for the intake was changed from aluminum to plastic.
And just food for thought, a 3.0/3.2L SHO engine will bolt right up, you would just need the PCM and wire harness. Good gas millage, and alot of power.
I've seen stock shorty FI 3L get 27 mpg well tuned, lots of top end but not the torque.
heavy loads, more than 2 passengers, mountains, the 4L is my CAT engine.
