Welcome to FTE!
Sorry no recall. Its just one of those fabulous engineering ideas that made it to production. On my '01 before it hit 40K mi. I had to do upper and lower balljoints twice and the bearing/hub assembly once, and thats just the beginning of the front end woes I've had. Dynatrac makes a conversion for these, although its pricey, I've heard good reviews about it.
Check it out at: www.dynatrac.com/ford-convert.htm
Even with the issues these trucks have, it still puts a smile on my face everytime I drive her.

Good luck and hope that helps,
Austin

I bought my 2000 350 CC PSD 4x4 with 95000 miles on it. The front end was making noise that sounding like the tires hadnt been rotated properly. The idiot that had it before me had Passenger tires (no load capacity) on it. I took the truck in to have the tires rotated and a front end alignment done on the 3rd day after I bought it. They did the rotation but when they put it on the alignment machine, the mechanic came and got me. Showed me all the wheel play in the right front and said it needed a new wheel bearing. I told him to go ahead and fix it. After he got it out he found that it is a sealed bearing unit. I called the shop that had done the inspection for the dealer and asked him how all of this passed inspection two days (before I bought the truck) 200 miles since the inspection. The owner got really crappy with me. I called the state trooper over the inspections. He met us and the dealer and followed with a citation to the shop and the inspector. Then the dealer replaced the bearing for free ($400 for the part).

At about 120,000 miles the left front went out. I replaced this one myself. I found a dealer and got it for about $330 dollars due to I had to drive on hour to him and then he didnt have it. So he drove to the next dealer and picked it up and sold it to me for wholesale. Thankfully.

Just make sure to get the studs when you get the hub. If you have been driving with it wobbling for awhile then the studs are probably messed up. They aren't that expensive and nice to have during the procedure instead of having to stop and drive another vehicle to the dealer and get them.

You can get the bearings for $230-$260 Also if you have a pre 3-99 you can use the newer bearing with the newer rotor. The old bearing is avail only from the dealer for big $$$$$.

powerstrokeshop.com has bearing kits for $295. The kits include everything needed (seals, bolts, nuts, O-rings, plus the bearing)to do one side. This will get you back to "like new" condition for a lot less than the Dynatrac setup, which is the best way to go, but begins at about $1500.
