I hear everyone say they go wheeling friday and saturday and wrench their truck back together on sunday. What exactly should i do to my truck after i go wheeling?
Thanks,
Will
just go over it really well. hit up all your grease fittings with grease, check your tires for any large gashes and to make sure they all have the proper pressure. it rreally depends on what kind of wheelin. it's good to get mud off ASAP so it doesn't dry. also if you hit any high water check all your fluids, esp front and rear diff oil. also track down any unusual noises soon, that usually means something is wearing out and the sooner you find it the better. also its a REAL good idea to pull your brakes apart and rinse them out. it doesn't take much to get a small pebble caught inside and reak havoc!
Yeah after every bogg i give the truck a good wash top to bottom and underneath, check all the u-joints, then grease everything till nice clean grease comes out (wiping up the nasty crap up of course ), then i start it up till it warms up, then check all the engine fluids, then i unload it off the trailer go for a quick drive and check the diff's and tranny and tc, after that a nice tall cold one while i make plans for the next mods .
Don't forget to take a peek at the drive shafts to see if you dinged anything up. Also peek at brake lines to make sure nothing snagged or caught on them. Look at the exhaust for any wierd bends, breaks, or dents.
Recently I've been checking my e-brake cables when I'm done wheeling. I was out about 2 months ago and when I started on my way back home the truck felt real sluggish and just all and all underpowered. Then I started smelling burning brakes and pulled off to check everything out. I snagged an e-brake cable on something and it pulled the right side on and wouldn't let it release. everything looked normal until i actually got up under the truck and saw the kink.
If you're in deepish water, tear your front hubs down, dry everything out, and repack the wheel bearings. If you don't, expect to hear the death screech along about Friday from one side.
