Hi everybody, I have a '91 Explorer Sport, and I am getting ready to change the HO2s's and according to the repair manual, I have two sensors, one on the left exhaust manifold, and one in the Y-pipe. Now I have already found the one in the pipe, but I have searched every inch of both manifolds and have found nothing. Mine is a August of '90 build, and I have found a few parts were changed or moved around from the later '91 builds, could this be another?
I would appreaciate any help, its driving me nuts!
sonme DIY manuals are too generic for such information. '91, '92, and some '93 Explorers only had one O2 sensor (the one in the Y pipe that you've found). I recommend that you stop looking for the non-existent 2nd O2 sensor.
I believe multiple O2 sensors were introduced starting with the 1996 models which had the OBDII system. Prior to that only one sensor. If your manual covers multiple years of Explorers that could the reason for the confusion.
Thanks, that helps alot! The manual I have claims that 91-95 used two sensors, and then 96 and up used four. I am going to go ahead and repleace the one in the pipe today! Thanks again!

Actually, some '93 and all '94 and '95 Explorers had 2 O2 sensors, so multiple O2 sensors are possible in EEc-IV/OBD-1 vehicles. You just have to know which ones.
