PCV system?

I was reading one of the recent threads and one of the guys has pulled the pcv system off his 300. Can this be done on a 302 or any engine. I thought that was something that you had to have help your engine breathe. All enquirys welcome.

Thanks

Keith

PCV system?

I wouldn't...My PCV valve was clogged and I was pushing oil out my rear main seal and the dipstick. I would think that a closed system would be really bad.

And...why would you wanna do this anyway? Has no negatives on performance, and it reduces prssure in the crankcase, so why?

Also sucks out condensate(water) from the crankcase. If water is left in there, it will combine with some other stuff and form an acid which is hard on the bearings.

I was just wondering how this would affect the engine. I have mine intact also.I had just read that someone else has pulled his and was wanting to find out what was the reason. Thanks for all the info on here and all my prior threads. I have realle learned a great deal.

Thanks

Keep your PCV system operating properly. Check the hoses and filters. Replace the PCV valve annually in the fall during the "winterizing" process/checks. Some of the others here have pointed out some of the problems involved if the system does not operate properly.

You do not want a closed system. Its best to keep your pcv in. Some guys remove the pcv and replace it with a breather. This works, but is not as good as a pcv system. As pcv's typically route through the carb, they raise the temp of the intake charge thus robbing a little power. This is why some guys put on the breathers. If you are that concerned with it put in a crankcase evacuation system. These plumb into the exhuast and generate the beneficial negative crankcase pressure without routing it through the carb.
