Question Fan belt question

I have a 95 F-150 with the I-6. The fan belt keeps "jumping" over and tearing off one grove. As the belt sit now it is in the correct position on every pully except the power steering pump. It looks like the pump is set back about 1/4". Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you recently changed anything? If not, here is my experience with this same problem. My belt shredded, i bought a new one. I checked everything when i installed the new belt. ie... everything lined up, the tension pulley bearing was tight and the pulley did not wobble. I put on the new belt and watched it at idle. Everything looked fine. I drove the truck to work and home the next day (approx 24 miles). I pop the hood and see the belt starting to shred again. Back to Schuck's, I have the manager check everything with me. He says everything looks good and gives me a new belt. I say thanks and go home. Next day I drive to work and home, look under hood and the belt is shredding again........ I am starting to get perturbed. Everything looks fine!!!!!!!!!!!! I take the belt off and while inspecting the tension pulley I notice a somewhat flat spot on it. As this is the only thing i have seen i decide to change it. While you can change just the pulley i decided to change both the pulley and tension arm. I have been driving the truck for over a year now with no problems... I hope this helps you out.

That sounds exactly what is happening here. I was even starting to think about the tension pully. That just might be what I need. Thanks grumpyangler.

I fixed that problem on my 300 a few months ago, it was the water pump that was shredding my belt(s). JM

Right now I am thinking maybe the power steering pump because that is were the betl is off and the thing is noisy like you wouldn't beleive. The tension pully may also be a problem but I haven't looked into it yet.

jlmckinney how did you know it was the water pump? The temps are normal so I assume it is working fine.

The first time it shredded the belt, no prob. The second (Spare), that shredded, I started hearing a slight noise under the hood, that the fan blades were barely hitting/rubbing something. The noise started getting louder after 3-4 times driving the truck. All of a sudden, WATER/FLUID leaking from the Water Pump. It took 6 months to finally fix the problem. I was driving an Orange Pumpkin at the time, still do, and finally had the avail time to GetRDone! JM
