Now, you said this was a "stupid question". I was so looking forward to using one of my many stupid answers. But, alas, no.
My 56 door hinges swap upper to lower and side to side. The hinges are not identified as to L/R or upper/lower either. In fact "John's F-Fun Hundreds" catalog only lists one number (p/n 22800B) for the hinge (53-56).
So, there you go. Better luck next time on that stupid thing. We love those.
Direction the pins go in from! If you put a left hinge on the right or VVS the pin will be upside down and could possibly work itself out. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
I thought about that pin thing too. In fact, like a lot of guys here, I just thought I'd replace the pins, but believe it or not, these are rivets! That's why I just bought new hinges. I had Scott's question too.
Now I've heard that there is a kit to replace the rivets (with pins?). Go figure...

Great question....I know this has been discussed before but I just had a go at it and my vote would be "Impossible". I took it to work and had 5 tons on it in the press, nothing. Tried to drill it and barely could scratch it in the drill press. Ahhh...the hot wrench you say.....no way. I never thought about it being a rivet (1953) but that has to be it. Any way I bought new ones from Mid-Fifty, one number for all of them.
