So I was at my uncles this weekend checking out the 54 he's giving me and going through the inventory of parts. Man there is a lot of stuff. The short list of extra parts is...
Front axle assembly
3 transmissions (one is a t-bird overdrive unit)
new electrical harness
set of heads (yet to be decoded but from a tbird)
ramshorn manifolds
extra original windshield
2 or 3 extra steering columns
... many more
I'll probably end up selling a lot of the parts to fund the project. Do most people just use eBay to sell parts???
So my plan of attack (implies limited thought) is to stripping the truck to the frame on the first day. I'd like to get it running first, then re-evaluate what to do with the truck. So the steps are...
1) Rebuild the extra front axle assembly w/ king pins, brakes etc and swap that onto the truck. The unit on the truck now is completely shot.
2)Pull the 239 engine (which I found out is a replacement block) and decide whether to keep it or step up to a larger Y block, like a 292. If the 239 is salvageable w/o a lot of machine work I may stick with it.
3)I'll have the transmission freshened while the engine is out too.
4)Next is to reassemble and get it moving under its ~own~ power.
I do have pictures to post in my gallery. This website hasn't been very cooperative over the weekend so I'll try again tonight.
