I am about to have my torque converter replaced. Whilst its all in bits is it going to be possible to change the rear crank seal without dropping the pan or cranks etc?
Anything else worth changing when the transmission is away from the motor?
Should be one place seal...it is really easy to do, just try and get some impact wrenches or something to get the flywheels bolts out as they can be a PITA to get out. But if the shop is replacing your torque convertor they could do that as well and it shouldnt be that much more.
ok, I'll get them to do it - how about input seal to transmission - is that worth changing and easy to do?
Just trying to make the most of having the transmission out and fixing all those jobs that on their own would be hundreds of dollars labour for 20 bucks of seals etc..
As long as the tranny's out, it's certainly easier to change it now as a little extra precaution. With the converter out of the way, it's really not a problem to do.
It's a good thing you have the newer one-piece seal on the crank, because you do have to drop the pan and pull the rear main cap to replace the older two-piece seal. Much more of a PITA.
Might be a good opportunity to change the trans. filter if that hasn't been done recently, and just sort of go through and check things out under there. As long as the drivelines are out, inspect the u-joints. Of course, they're easy to change later, but as long as the shafts are already out...
yeah as tigerdan said, trans filter and change, u joints, axle grease, front pump seal in tranny if they are doing the TQ they should do this anywsys, whilst they have the tranny out tell them to give it a once over, and adjust bands and make sure all the bells and whistles are in its right place. you can check the Drive shifat and make sure it is balanced. Other than that i cant think of anything.
