running the truck on an updated predator 85hp tune... wow..! i hit 27 lbs of boost on my stock turbo and man was she running..! i got the P1211 code.. injector control pressure higher or lower than desired, and a note that this is a normal code for modified diesels... but further down i found two other codes P1105 & P1106 dual alternator upper and lower fault respectively... can anybody tell me what these codes mean..?
It means exactly what you are fearing....one or both of the generators might be bad. Check the electrical connectors/harness' first, and if that's good load test them.
one other question... if this "fault" occured while i was towing... could it cause my truck to "defuel" and loose power while climbing a steep hill... i am making the assumption that a diesel under this load would put more load on the alternators..
Prior to your post I wasn't even aware that the PCM recorded fault codes for the generators, but I'm reasonably sure that those codes can not cause the truck to defuel.
Did the charging system light on the dash ever come on....I'm wondering if maybe the drive belt is slipping, or the tensioner isn't tight enough as opposed to both the generators failing at the same time.
i did not know that fault codes were recorded either, but it stands to reason... i am wondering about the fuel filter on my truck... if that was partially pluged it might cause this defuel, but i don't think so... this was a sudden drastic change in boost, 20 plus lbs psi down to 10 almost instantly sounds like an even that was computer controled...
as for the dash light, it never came on, and i have a digital volt meter in the cigarette lighter port that shows realtime voltage levels and has a green a yellow and a red light that changes from green to red as the voltage drops... i did notice that the voltage is low when you first start the truck and it stays low if you simply let the truck idle when you start it, which is what i do... i worked for a guy who has had many of these diesels, mainly OBS trucks, and he said they all did this same thing... he had tested all the batteries and the alternators and none of them load tested bad... i should test mine though...

When the PCM defuels from overboost, backpressure, or ICP reasons it is barely perceptable....I can't think of a situation where the PCM even has the capacity to pull enough fuel to cost you 10 psi.
Generally the throttle is pretty touchy on the higher chip settings, and it doesn't take much of a lift for it to back way off. Is it possible somethng like that happened, or short of that, are there any other symptoms?
you know... i wondered if i might have "lifted"... but i honestly don't think so.. i know EXACTLY what you mean about a "touchy" pedal... on the 85hp tune it is sooooooo sensitive...! it was trully weird though... there were no other symptoms... i just don't know what could have caused this... i must have lifted and not know it because the truck is running soooo awesome...! i have to tow the 5ver back friday night... we'll see how it goes... you know i will be watching and listening like a hawk..!
Happens to me all the time, especially at the top of the tach. right before a shift. Without realizing it I'll lift ever so slightly and boost will drop from 30 to 20 in a heartbeat. Frustrating at times, but I figure it's probably easier on the old girl in the long run.
The possibility also exists that you are running out of high pressure oil on top, but at this point I'm thinking you probably do not have a pump problem.
i just switched to rottella T syn 5w40... could this cause the problem... i thought this was good oil... but i never had this problem with the mobil 1 diesel rated SUV stuff...
I'm not a huge fan of the synthetic Rotella because I get a funky idle surge when I'm running it, but I never had any operation problems with it otherwise.
I'd just hang loose until Friday. Reproduce the problem a coupe of times (if you can), collect some more data....see if there really is a problem.
probably a good idea... i got the rottella because wally world was out of mobil 1 syn... the rottella is cheaper, but to be honest, i didn't like the look of it... i know that is stupid, but i've learned to trust my gut on these things, my first impressions are usually right on... i think i'll hook up the predator and do some realtime data logging on the injector pressures... if there is a problem it should show something in those readings...
