88 - questions about computer and about ignition module
My truck died the other day. I Think I saw a puff of smoke come out from under the hood, not sure. There was a strong burnt electrical smell near the drivers side hood hinge. When I got to examine it a few hours later, the only thing that smelled was the inside of a connector ( 9 pins in a circle, 1 in the center ) but there is not obvious damage. I've looked at a lot of the wires in the harnesses and see no indication of burning or melting. Truck turns over fine, but won't start.
Here are the questions.
When I connect my code reader to the computer and throw the switch to put it in test mode nothing happens. What does this mean? Fried computer?
Where the heck is the electronic ignition module? On my 82 it was bolted to the fender inside the engine compartment. I can't find one on my 88. Could this be causing the problem.
I appreciate any suggestion.
John
